Lena Lagergren is a native of Sweden and was born in Harnosand. She and her husband, Stig, moved to the United States in the 1950s and soon after she began to study painting. In 1956-1961, while a resident of Evanston, Illinois, she studied at the Evanston Art Center under George Rochelou, one of Chicago’s most well-known and respected artists. She also studied at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
In 1982 she was featured in a one-woman show at the Sandusky Art Museum in Sandusky, Ohio. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, she was selected seven times to participate in the Oak Brook Fine Arts Promenade.
In 1988 and 2001, she participated in group shows at the Swedish American Museum on Clark Street in Chicago.
In 1990 and 2000, she held a one woman show at the Elmhurst Art Museum in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Lena is widely recognized for her flower, garden and landscape oil and acrylic paintings. Her artwork is influenced by the colors found in nature and her surroundings. Lena’s impressionist style can be seen in her colorful flowers and her serene landscapes. She enjoys painting on location from the prairies and gardens of the Midwest, the islands of the Caribbean, to her homeland of Sweden. Lena began painting abstracts in the 1990s and has found the vivid colors to be appealing to many of her collectors. Her colorful work may be found in many homes in Sweden, Belgium, Malaysia, and throughout the United States.
Lena has lived in Elmhurst, Illinois, for the past 33 years. In September of 2002, Lena and her husband moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to be near one of their three children.
